Dalhousie Tourism – About Dalhousie

Spread across five hills at altitudes between 1,525 and 2,378 meters, Dalhousie was established in 1854 as a summer retreat for British officers. Named after Lord Dalhousie, the then Viceroy of India, this hill station preserves its colonial architecture through churches, Victorian mansions, and tree-lined promenades. Unlike its busier counterparts, Dalhousie offers quiet contemplation amidst deodar and oak forests, with the snow-capped Dhauladhar range providing a dramatic backdrop. Its proximity to Khajjiar, often called Mini Switzerland, adds to its appeal as a destination for those seeking Himalayan peace.

  • Untouched colonial architecture and churches
  • Gateway to Khajjiar's meadow paradise
  • Dense deodar and oak forest walks
  • Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary nearby
  • Quieter alternative to crowded hill stations
